Dancers who join the company have leadership roles at Southern California Ballet, both in dance training as well as helping to make a vibrant community.
Calista Cartwright is a junior Honors/AP student at Westview High School. She began dancing at the Rozann-Zimmerman Ballet Center in Los Angeles, then moved to San Diego at the age of 13 and joined SCB. Calista completed her Cecchetti Advanced 1 exam, and is working towards completing her Cecchetti Advanced 2 exam and Cecchetti Teaching Certificate 1. She attended CSSSA in 2015 and Marin Dance Theatre in 2016. She was a Fairy in Cinderella; danced Rose Fairy variation; was selected for Gregory Dawson's work; and danced the Duck in Peter and the Wolf. In The Nutcracker, Calista has danced Harlequin, Columbine, Snow, Spanish, Arabian and Flower corps.
Claire Fiorino is an honor roll senior at Rancho Bernardo High School and has been dancing at Southern California Ballet for nine years. She recently received Honors on her Cecchetti Advanced II exam and Cecchetti Teaching Certificate I. She currently teaches the Creative Dance classes at SCB and is preparing for the Diploma exam and her Cecchetti Teaching Certificate II. Claire attended CSSSA in 2014 and has attended the summer intensive at SCB for two summers. Past roles include Fairy Queen in Cinderella, as well as Lead Flower, Lead Spanish, and Lead Mirliton in The Nutcracker. Claire also has an interest in political science.
Sam Fiorino, a freshman at Rancho Bernardo High School, has been dancing at Southern California ballet for ten years. He has danced many roles including Fritz in The Nutcracker, the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, and Peter in Peter in the Wolf. Sam completed the Grade 8 Cecchetti exam last spring and attended the Cecchetti USA ballet intensive this past summer. Sam also has his 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do.
Kayla Kressin is a sophomore Honors/AP student at Poway High School. She began dancing at SCB at age seven and received honors on her CecchettiAdvanced I exam. In 2014, Kayla attended the Cecchetti USA Regional Workshop in Virginia and CSSSA in the summer of 2015. This past summer, she attended the Cecchetti USA Regional Workshop in Santa Barbara. Past roles include Fairy and Milanese in Cinderella, Peter Rabbit in Beatrix Potter, and Louisa, Harlequin, and Ragamuffin in The Nutcracker. Kayla is currently training for her Cecchetti Advanced II exam.
Sanae Kanenobu is a sophomore student at Poway High School. She began dancing at the age of five and joined Southern California Ballet at age eleven. Sanae is currently studying for her Cecchetti Advanced I exam. This is her second year as a company member, and she has participated in five productions of The Nutcracker with SCB. Past roles include Clara and Flowers corps. Sanae attended CSSSA this past summer.
Amecie Lublin is a junior Honors student at Del Lago Academy. She began dancing at age four at SCB. Past summers, Amecie attended Cecchetti USA Regional Workshop, CSSSA, and Marin Dance Theatre. Past roles in The Nutcracker include Harlequin, lead Bon Bon, Chinese, Spanish, and Flower corps. Amecie portrayed the Cat in Peter and the Wolf, was part of Gregory Dawson's In the Midst of a Summer Storm, and danced the White Cat in The Sleeping Beauty.
Kelsy Paraoan is an eighth-grade GATE student at Oak Valley Middle School with a 4.0 GPA. She began dancing with Southern California Ballet when she was three years old and this is her fifth year performing in The Nutcracker. Kelsy is preparing for her Cecchetti Advanced II exam. This past summer, she attended the summer intensive at Southern California Ballet. Past roles include Alice in Alice in Wonderland and Clara in The Nutcracker. Kelsy enjoys cooking and baking in her free time.
Kanaha Takeda is a sophomore at Ranch Bernardo High School. She started dancing at age seven. This is her second year at Southern California Ballet, having previously trained at San Diego Academy of Ballet. In SCB's 2015 The Nutcracker, Kanaha danced corps de ballet in Turkish Delight, Snow, and Waltz of the Flowers. This past summer, she attended The Rock School of Dance.
Kalena Tano is a senior honors/AP student at Rancho Bernardo High School. She is the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, the RB Silver Spur. She began dancing at age ten at Southern California Ballet. Kalena recently received honors on her Advanced II Cecchetti Exam and Awarded with Distinction on her Cecchetti Teaching Certificate I exams. She is working towards her Diploma and Teaching Certificate II exams. Over her summers, Kalena has attended Ballet Hawaii, CSSSA, Cecchetti USA regional workshop, and Marin Dance Theatre. Past roles include Dragonfly in Cinderella, and Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. In The Nutcracker, Kalena has been the lead dancer for Bon-Bon, Spanish, Chinese, Arabian, Viviandre, and Waltz of the Flowers.
Leah Zabezhinsky is an honors freshman at Rancho Bernardo High School. She has been dancing with SCB since age six, and is currently studying for her Cecchetti Advanced 1 exam. Leah has attended the SCB's Summer Intensive, as well as the Cecchetti USA Residential Summer Course in Santa Barbara last summer. Leah has performed in eight years of productions with Southern California Ballet. Notable roles include Flopsy in Tales of Beatrix Potter and the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland.
