Dance The Nutcracker in a Day!
Girl Scout Workshop
This workshop is for the young dancer at heart! Girl Scouts will enjoy learning the story behind the making of The Nutcracker - Tchaikovsky and Petipa's ballet masterpiece. They will learn about ballet vocabulary and production elements such as scenery, lighting, and props. Southern California Ballet's ballet mistresses will teach basic ballet steps and delve into the popular dances from The Nutcracker, such as the soldiers and mice battle scene in Act 1, and the Waltz of the Flowers and Chinese Dance from Act 2.
Southern California Ballet’s Co-Artistic Director, Martha Leebolt, will facilitate the workshop. Ms. Leebolt danced with Northern Ballet in Leeds, UK, as principal dancer for over 15 years. She is a native of Rancho Bernardo and received the Silver Award as a Girl Scout.
Included in the workshop is a study guide and a Nutcracker ballet patch. Wear comfortable clothing, such as a t-shirt and leggings, and for your feet bring socks unless you own ballet slippers.
