In Southern California Ballet’s summer intensives, students will take part in ballet technique, concentrated classes of allegro, pirouettes and/or pointe, body conditioning, and different styles of dance including jazz, contemporary, and character.
The dancers will be coached and trained by esteemed guest teachers and SCB faculty.
Dancers not on pointe with at least two years' ballet experience (10+ years old)
Dancers on pointe with at least six months' pointe work experience (12+ years old) or dancers who have passed Cecchetti Grade 6 exam.

CO-aRTISTIC dIRECTOR OF sOUTHERN cALIFORNIA bALLET
Martha Leebolt trained at Black Mountain Dance Centre under the direction of Sylvia Palmer and Ahita Ardalan and was a Southern California Ballet Company member. After graduation she attended the professional training program at BalletMet. A year later, she joined Northern Ballet, Leeds, England, rising to rank of principal . Numerous roles created for her include Cleopatra in Claude-Michel Schonberg and David Nixon's Cleopatra, Daisy in The Great Gatsby, Beauty in Beauty and the Beast, Julia in 1984 and Cinderella in Cinderella. Other roles include Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker, Odette and Odilia in Swan Lake, Mina and Lucy in Dracula to name a few. She has worked with some of the top choreographers in the world including Hans Van Manen, Christopher Hampson, Jean-Christophe Maillot, David Nixon, Jonathan Watkins and Cathy Marston. A recipient of the Outstanding Female Classical Performance Award, 2010 National Dance Awards, England and nominated for the same award in 2016; repeatedly included in the Dance Europe magazine's list of outstanding dancers; Martha has been a guest artist around the world including the23rd International Ballet Festival, Havana, Cuba, China and the 2014 European Ballet Awards, Berlin. As of September 2017, Martha became Co-Artistic Director of Southern California Ballet in San Diego.

Toby Batley was born in Manchester, England and trained at the Hammond School of Dance in Chester and the Royal Ballet School, London. After graduating, Tobias joined the Jeune Ballet de Cannes, in France before joining Northern Ballet, England in 2004 where he was promoted to principal dancer. In addition to performing all of the leading roles in Northern Ballet’s repertoire he had many roles created for him including Marc Anthony in David Nixon and Claude Michel in Schonberg's Cleopatra, Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby, Prince Mikhail in Cinderella, Charles Darnay in A Tale of Two Cities and Winston Smith in the award winning 1984. He has worked with some of the top choreographers in the world including Hans Van Manen, Christopher Hampson, Jean-Christophe Maillot, David Nixon, Jonathan Watkins and Cathy Marston. He was nominated for National Dance Awards in 2010 , 2012 , 2015 and 2016 and has been included in Dance Europe magazine’s list of outstanding dancers for the last six years. He has guested in galas internationally, most recently at the Taglioni European Ballet Awards in Berlin. As of September 2017, Tobias became Co-Artistic Director of Southern California Ballet in San Diego.
Wendy Cormier, MFA Ballet
Mrs. Cormier earned her MFA in Ballet with a specialty in Character dance from The University of Utah where she trained with Yurek Lazowsky, William Christenson, Mattlyn Gavers and others. She danced with the College University Ballet Ensemble, Ballet West and was a featured soloist for the character dance ensemble. Upon completion of her degree, Wendy returned home to dance with Honolulu City Ballet and was also cast in many television programs, including Magnum P.I.. In 1986, she moved to San Diego and worked extensively within the Poway Unified school district developing innovative dance programs for children; produced and directed children's variety shows; and received the California State PTA Honorary Service and Continuing Service Awards. Mrs. Cormier has been teaching at Southern California Ballet since 2001, is a certified Cecchetti teacher and adjunct professor in the Dance Department at Palomar College teaching both lecture and studio classes.
SCB STAFF, FORMERLY SAN FRANCISCO BALLET AND JOFFREY BALLET
Nancy Robinson studied ballet in Los Angeles with Robert Rossellat, a student of Preobrajenska and Espinosa in Paris. At the age of fifteen she received a Ford Foundation Scholarship to San Francisco Ballet School and was accepted into San Francisco Ballet Company the following year. Ms. Robinson danced as a soloist there for seven years, then as Principal dancer with the City Center Joffrey Ballet Company, which made her an internationally acclaimed ballerina. She has toured Vienna, London, and several major United States cities. During her career, she danced in principal roles such as Astarte Pas de Deesses (Joffrey), Moves and Interplay (Robbins), Time Cycle (Bolender) several works by Arpino, Nutcracker-Sugar Plum Fairy (Christensen), and other works by Fokine and Ailey. Later she was Ballet Mistress at Pacific Northwest Ballet Company and The Los Angeles Ballet.
Associate Director of Cecchetti Studies
Ms. Stone earned a BFA from U.S. International University and has worked with Alicia Alonzo, Anthony Dowell, Christopher Newton and John Butler while performing with USIU and San Diego Ballet Company. She was soloist at San Diego Ballet, performing in Giselle, Swan Lake, Carmina Burana, Firebird, Raymonda, The Nutcracker and Cinderella. Ms. Stone has her Cecchetti Associate and has successfully entered students through grade 9 into Cecchetti exams. Currently, Academy Vice-Principal, Southern California Ballet.

FORMERLY PARIS OPERA BALLET AND BALLET DE MONTE CARLO, FORMER BALLET MISTRESS OF SAN DIEGO BALLET AND ASSIST. DIRECTOR OF SCB
Ms. Ardalan received her initial training at the English Royal Ballet in Tehran under the tutelage of Robert De Warren. She continued her training at the Paris Conservatory with Solange Schwartz and Pierre Lacotte before then performing with the Paris Opera Ballet for twelve years. She taught at the Conservetoire de Region de Paris and later became Stage Manager and assistant director for the Princess Caroline Ballet de Monte Carlo with whom she toured all over the world.
In 1991, Roland Petit asked her to join the Ballet National Marseille as his Artistic Assistant and Stage Manager. During her career in Europe, she has worked personally with Rudolf Nureyev, Marcia Haydee, Sylvie Guillem, Alessandra Ferri, William Forsythe and many others.
She served as the long-time Ballet Mistress for the San Diego Ballet and also as assistant director for Southern California Ballet (then called Black Mountain Dance Center) for 14 years. She now resides in Denver, Colorado where she continues to teach ballet throughout the region.

Corina Gill began her training at Black Mountain Dance Center with Sylvia Palmer and Ahita Ardalan, and later attended the University of California, Irvine’s well-known dance program on scholarship. Ms. Gill danced in several ballet companies, including San Diego Ballet, Ballet Tech, Ballet Pacifica, and State Street Ballet. She joined Los Angeles Ballet at its launch in 2006. Her repertoire there includes principal roles in Bournonville’s “La Sylphide” and “Napoli;” Balanchine’s “Rubies,” “Agon,” “Stravinsky Violin Concerto,” “The Four Temperaments,” and “Apollo;” and Christensen’s “The Nutcracker.” In 2009, Boston Ballet Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen offered Ms. Gill a position in the corps de ballet. She was later featured in Pointe Magazine’s “Dancer Spotlight” by Ashley Rivers, and in 2016 promoted to second soloist. Among her favorite principal roles are Kate from William Forsythe’s “The Second Detail” and Norbert Vesak’s “Belong” pas de deux.
Ms. Gill has guest taught master classes and summer intensive courses across the country and world, has been both a guest and faculty member at Boston Ballet School, and is currently on staff at Harvard University’s Dance Center. Ms. Gill is mat certified by the Pilates Method Alliance and has her master’s certificate in Nonprofit Management and a BA in Dance. She and her husband welcomed their first child in November of 2017. Ms. Gill is retiring this year from her 20-year onstage career to focus on teaching and her family.
FORMER DANCER IN ENGLISH NATIONAL BALLET (FESTIVAL BALLET), ENGLAND, CURRENTLY PROFESSOR AT THE COLBURN SCHOOL, ADJUNCT FACULTY IN THE COLLEGE OF THE PERFORMING ARTS AT CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY
Jennie Morton is a former Ballet dancer, West End musical theatre performer, and professional singer who is now an Osteopath specializing in the treatment of performing artists. Based in Los Angeles, California, she is the Wellness Professor at The Colburn School, adjunct faculty in the College of Performing Arts at Chapman University, is on the Board of Directors for both the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) and the Dance Resource Center (LA), and is on the Health and Wellness Committee for the International Society for Music Education. She is an Honorary Lecturer for the MSc in Performing Arts Medicine at University College, London, for which she co-wrote the syllabus, and provides training workshops for medical and health professionals in the treatment of performing artists. Jennie lectures internationally to artists, arts educators, and healthcare professionals on the subject of performance-related injuries, and provides treatment from her office in West Hollywood. She is the author of three books: The Authentic Performer: Wearing A Mask And The Effect On Health; The Embodied Dancer: A Guide To Optimal Performance; and Dancing Longer, Dancing Stronger. ARTISTIC DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER OF SABOR ANDALUZ AND INDIA ANDALUZ DANCE COMPANIES
Sabor Andaluz was created 15 years ago by San Diego Flamenco dancer, choreographer, and instructor Stephania Rey. She began her flamenco instruction at the age of eight with Spanish native instructors, and in the United States, has studied with international figures such as Farruquito, Angelita Gomez, Maria del Mar Moreno, Antonio Vargas, Juana Amaya, Rafael Campallo, and Manuel Linan. She has attended several flamenco workshops in California at the renowned New World Flamenco and Santa Barbara Flamenco Festivals.
Stephania has been featured at the prestigious Fountain Theater's Forever Flamenco in Hollywood California on several occasions and with the highly recognized Spanish Flamenco Company Herencia Flamenca. In addition to Flamenco, she has trained in some of the most challenging dance forms of classical Indian dance, Kathak and Bharatanatyam.
Stephania has performed locally and throughout Southern California with her Flamenco Company Sabor Andaluz. She has strongly contributed her time during the past 15 years to promote the Spanish and Indian cultures and folklore through different programs and events organized by non-profit organizations in California, as well as at several local community colleges, high schools, and universities.
Victor Wisehart is an American actor who has been an active member of the Broadway Community for over 10 years having had the honor being directed by: Bartlett Sher, Mary Zimmerman, Susan Stroman, Christopher Wheeldon, Christopher Gattelli, Denis Jones, Warren Carlyle, Marc Bruni, Josh Rhodes, Gordon Greenberg and Mitzi Hamilton. Beginning his career touring with The 50th Anniversary World Tour of West Side Story, he made his Musical Theatre debut in the role of Diesel at the Theatre du Chatelét in Paris. He continued to tour with WSS to Vienna, Athens, Düsseldorf, and Zurich, and on to his West End debut at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London. He made his New York stage debut in City Center Encore’s production of Pipe Dream. He appeared in Lincoln Center Theater’s production of South Pacific at The Kennedy Center, as well as for its first national tour. Victor returned to the Theatre du Chatelét with the world premiere of An American In Paris, continuing with the production to his Broadway debut originating the role of Mr. Z in An American In Paris on Broadway. He then went on to originate the role of Hollywood Director in Roundabout Theater Company’s Holiday Inn on Broadway, which was recorded for the cinema by Broadway HD and played in movie theaters all over the United States and PBS’s Great Performances. Always believing in the continuation of personal, professional, and artistic growth, Victor is currently in London, studying drama at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art as a member of the MA Theatre LAB ’19.
If a recreation camp or summer intensive does not reach our minimum weekly enrollment, we hold the right to cancel that week at a full refund. We will let you know fourteen days in advance of any cancellations.
A parent who withdraws their child from a recreation camp or summer intensive fourteen or more days before the start of camp will receive a full refund less a $25 cancellation.
You will receive a 50% refund if you cancel less than 14 days before the start of the program less a $25 cancellation fee.
No refunds are available once the program has started.
At your request, we will convert your unused camp/intensive cancellation fee into a tax-deductible donation to Black Mountain Dance Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, dba Southern California Ballet.
