COVID-19 Response & Announcement

Dear SCB Community,

As we said yesterday in our first email to the community, SCB will be following the lead of Poway Unified School District in its actions regarding the COVID-19 outbreak.

By now, most of you probably know that PUSD will be closing from Monday, March 16 until at least April 6. Sadly, this means we will be closing the studio effective immediately until we believe it is safe to re-open. Currently, SCB plans on remaining closed for at least two weeks, beginning today, Friday, March 13, and lasting until Sunday, March 29 or later.

In the interim, here at SCB we are brainstorming alternative ways of supporting your dancer’s continued engagement in dance, including potentially opening up more private lessons (which would be contingent on clear and strict hygienic protocols). We are also looking into the opportunity to host classes online so that students can stay active at home. We will provide updates on this as we have them.

The unfortunate effect of the studio’s closure is that our performances of Alice in Wonderland must be postponed. We understand that the students have put in so much hard work, and this is extremely sad news for them as well as ourselves. Putting on a production of the quality that we expect takes time and a great deal of work, which will be made impossible by the current situation.

We will keep everyone updated as decisions are made about the re-opening of the studio and any other information going forward.

We are very sorry that it has come to this, however, we look forward to seeing you upon re-opening. Currently, we feel that this is the safest option and best way to prioritize the health of our SCB community and beyond.

Please be patient with us as we work through this! We wish everyone health & safety during this time.

Rest well!

The SCB Team

Regarding Tuition:

At this time, SCB is evaluating the financial viability of refunding the remainder of March tuition, however, the effect this will have on the organization's stability going forward is unknown. We want to do our best to serve our community’s needs, but must also take into account SCB’s ability to keep its doors open in the future.

Therefore, in order to inform this decision affecting SCB’s continued viability, we are trying to gauge which of our customers would be willing to donate the remainder of their March tuition instead of requesting that it be refunded. We understand that you, too, may be suffering financially from this situation, but hope that those who are able to are willing to donate in an effort to help us weather this “storm.” As SCB is a nonprofit, all donations would be tax-deductible.

Please help us gauge this important decision by letting us know here if you would be willing to donate the remainder of your March tuition to SCB.
