Southern California Ballet Announces Two New Scholarship Programs for 2020 Summer Intensive Programs

We are excited to announce that, thanks to support from a generous donor and proceeds from last year's Gala Wine Pull, Southern California Ballet is inaugurating a scholarship to help students with the financial burden of attending its summer intensive programs.

We are so excited about creating this scholarship, and hope that it will extend the accessibility of our fantastic summer intensives to those who might otherwise have been unable to attend due to financial constraints, and push students to gain a deeper understanding of their dance training through the essay scholarship, which is open to all.

The Needs-Based Scholarship is awarded solely on applicants’ demonstrated financial need and will be judged blind by a committee of board members (excluding those who are current parents) based solely on the application. The amounts and total number of scholarships distributed to needs-based applicants will be decided based on the needs of applicants and the number of applications received. All scholarships will be applied to the applicant’s summer intensive tuition.

The Essay Award Scholarship will also be judged blind by SCB Artistic Directors Martha Leebolt and Toby Batley. This award will be for $220 to put towards tuition at SCB’s Summer Intensives.

Southern California Ballet’s Summer Intensive programming is three weeks of intense training with esteemed guest teachers from around the country. The variety of teachers and number of hours of focused dance training offered by the summer intensive are an integral part of any serious dancer’s learning. Dancers often come away from summer intensives having made great strides in their technique and understanding of dance. Summer is the time when we see dancers flourish the most!

It is therefore critical that all of our dancers have access to this important time in their training, regardless of their financial status.
