A Successful 2020 Roaring 20s Gala Fundraiser

Southern California Ballet’s (SCB) Annual Fundraising Gala celebrated “The Roaring 20s” in style. This year’s event, held at AleSmith Brewing Company, proved to be a night to remember raising over $17,000 to support SCB’s Academy and Community programs.

Guests from all around the community, who dressed in creative 1920s attire, indulged in fantastic food by Kaminski’s BBQ of Poway, live music from The Music Munks, and a surprise photo opportunity provided by the Model T Club of San Diego. SCB’s Company level dancers set the 1920s mood with a special performance of the Charleston that the dancers choreographed specifically for the event. DJ, Timothy Council, brought down the house by getting everyone onto the dance floor. Special guest auctioneer/former Poway City Councilman, Jim Cunningham, proved that the live auction can be as fun and exciting as it is profitable.

The purpose of the gala was to raise money for Southern California Ballet’s many fantastic free community programs, including creative dance classes at libraries around North County, the Adaptive Dance program for Adults with special needs, and the Outreach Nutcracker performances for school children. The gala also provided support for SCB’s professional new spring production of Alice in Wonderland with its “raise the paddle” portion of the live auction. SCB Artistic Directors, Toby Batley and Martha Leebolt, brought the mission to life with speakers and a video presentation of SCB’s achievements, thanks to sponsorship and donations: https://youtu.be/xHDJfUf7kFI

This year’s gala was sponsored by Dr. Melanie Orthodontics (venue sponsor), Bill Howe Plumbing (music sponsor), Beer Home Team (partial catering sponsor) and Industrial Technology, Inc. (dessert sponsor). If you are interested in helping sustain Southern California Ballet and all it does, please go to www.southerncaliforniaballet.org/donate-now to donate.
