Adaptive Dance Program for Adults with Special Needs
Oct. 9-Nov. 13, 2019
This fall, Southern California Ballet will inaugurate an inclusive, six-week adaptive dance program for adults with special needs, made possible by a recent grant from The Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation. The program aims to broaden the community and share the joy of dance with adults with special needs, and participation in the program is free.
This program is designed to be inclusive, and therefore, we encourage participation from non-disabled adults as well as adults with special needs.
Registration for the program will open on Tuesday, August 20, 2019.
Program is free for all participants, including both adults with special needs and non-disabled participants
Free transportation to and from SCB studios for participants with special needs who are also Rancho Bernardo residents
Professional job coaches or aides of participants who are residents of Rancho Bernardo will be paid their hourly wage to attend, as made possible by the grant from the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, an affiliate of the San Diego Foundation
Dance has been proven to increase happiness and relieve stress, while serving as one of the best and most effective forms of physical exercise.
Throughout the series of workshops, participants will spend time in the studio with their caregivers, other dancers, and SCB staff, where they can express themselves through movement, be creative, and flex their imaginative and physical muscles. They will learn different styles of dance, starting with modern, moving onto ballet, then Broadway and jazz, even experiencing the movements from Grease Lightning! The workshops will be accessible to all abilities, allowing anyone to experience dance and its benefits. The program will conclude in a community performance.
